"Solitude"
"My paintings are my response
to nature as a true teacher, who never fails to give me the color of sky and
water, the movement of trees, and the bearing of meadows and mountains for my
compositions. I begin a landscapes from a reality, then move to a place of
completion when I’m convinced the drama of my response is captured. Within the
reality of my paintings lies my emotional response to light and shadow as it
plays in nature, as it meets my eyes."

Artist's Statement
"Geometric
Paintings"
"As
an artist I use color, texture, and composition to show emotion, whether
painting traditional forms like landscapes or painting abstract shapes. I begin
with a solid ground then start adding color to elicit a feeling. Line and mass
begin to take shape in a push-pull with the color. My underlying intention as
an artist in this process is to reach for an expression of the unseen, unnamed
places within me while also recording my observations of what is around me. In
the full process of working, I slip into an altered state where emotion rules.
Intellect comes in after taking a break when I view my work, see what works and
what doesn't, and change things to suit the composition. This process continues
until I feel a resolution has been reached. "

Artist's Statement
"Where Geometry
Leads"
"Geometry
is the branch of mathematics that deals with points, angles, spheres, and lines
in space. The cosmos, both external to us and internal in the form of our
DNA, manifests itself geometrically, and we humans bring geometry forth
creatively in our architecture, music, dance, art and utilitarian inventions."
"In myself, I find geometry awash in the swamp of my mind, swimming in dark
places, composting on brain cells. Here, it loses its mathematically
specific set of assumptions, and resurfaces in color and organic form through my
paintings. Until it is on the canvas, I am unable to see the images.
The process is a combination of work, emotional angst, and reverie; the
outcome is what I paint."
